1.Whats good my brother, now i have been a fan since i first heard you work last year. To those may not know who you are or your dope beyond dope work, introduce yourself who are you? Where are you from? And what is your craft?

 

 First off my name is Dan Moore aka BLACNASHON ,im from Chicago IL..  My craft is making music.  

2. Now Blac Nashon, thats a dope production name, can you explain the meaning behind it? and how the name came about?

 Lol now that name I did some heavy thought..  I wanted it to be unique.. Something nobody used before.(Blac) stands for im proud to be black but I wanted that spelling .. (Nashon) stands for unity for black people... So that's how I got the name BLACNASHON 

3.What is you earliest recollection of music that you can remember?

I remember my cousin let me listen to some real hip hop like mobb deep.  Wu tang clan..  Tribe called Quest..  Krs one..  Pete rock. This was when I was in 6th grade.  I grew up in this stuff.  Mad memories!! 

4.Who were some of your earlier influences when you started production?

 on the real my guys made music on the Xbox.. Playstation..  To the mpc and Roland..  Loved how they chopped up music and lay them over drums.. junk was mad crazy when I seen it action..  Junk had me mad inspired.  It was on after that. 

5.Who are some of your current influences as of today?

 

 I have to say Pete Rock..  J dilla.. Kevin brown..and Roc Marciano..  Apollo brown. just to name a few 

6.Not to show age but what year did you start production?

 

 I started making music in 2014. 

7.What was that Moment or event that made you realize you had this gift of production?

 When I heard my guys making music..  I felt that music gift firing up in my spirit.   It was a string passion 

8. When did you decide to pursue your gift as a producer?

 When I got my Maschine micro. I Knew I should pursue. 

9.What was your brown sugar moment aka your fall in love moment with hip hop?

  When my guys made music cooking up music in the crib just Vibing out. 

10.Now You're from Chicago, what is the local scene like there?

 It's city life.. Fast pace as well. It's real live here..  Reminds me of the city  Detroit. It's lots to get into.  Such as networking etc. 

11.Does the local scene affect what and how you create your music?

   

        Not not really. I go based off what sample I hear. 

12. What is your creative process like in the lab? Not to show any sector seven stuff lol

      

         Man its one of two ways I start my process ..  I usually start with my drums., snare, hi hats, etc to give me a        feel.. Now that's first and foremost lol and second ill pick and choose a sample that best fits over the drums I just      laid.. I can go through 10 samples until I find that right sample to lay over my drums..  Im very picky..  I want it to       sound right..  At least in my mind it do lol..  And last ill lay a bass line if needed..  Thats my process in a                   nutshell..  Its simple and easy..  Nothing complicated 

13. How do you feel about the analog aka hardware vs software debate concerning production equipment? 

 

 Well it's hard to pick. You know the saying different strokes for different folks. Got to use what is best for you.. You     know!! 

14.What Does Your lab consist of? And how has your setup changed since you started?

  

 I got a keyboard  .  My Maschine micro2/mpc and my laptop..  All i need and I'm straight. 

15.How Do You feel about Record Digging aka Crate Digging vs E-Digging aka internet digging?

   

Well to me it can be a slight difference..  Only difference is you can sit at home on the computer and                         DOWNLOAD w distractions.  On the other hand going out to a record store you might be able to find joints that is       not on the Internet and meet people in the record store to give you some input/advice on what you looking for. 

16.What would you say defines your signature sound?

     

I have to say I give all the honor to God for my sound!!! 

17.How would You Define your signature sound?

  Its hard to say..  I let people who hear my stuff be the judge of that.. I know i have a laid back sound like hip hopish/jazz type. 

18.How long after you started producing did you feel you found your signature sound?

    I have to say I started to feel like I found my sound two years into making music. 

19. Do you represent and companies or labels if so how long have you been affiliated with them?

     No i dont affiliate with any companies.  

20.What are some of your current projects and where can we dind them to support?

  Well I do have a project coming out with my guy maj..  Its called Chitroit..so look out for that.  

21. What are some of your future projects and which ones are You looking forward to most? 

   Well I do have a project coming out with my guy maj..  Its called Chitroit..  I will be coming out with a project my 

    self.  It will be called BLAC PROJECTS

22.Congrats on the recent wedding
, how does having a family affect you production output?

   Thanks, appreciate it.  It's been good. It has affected me just a little bit,  due to spending time with the family             which is more important.  But I try to get it in any chance I get. I be thirsty to get it in lol

.Whatupdoe, Now we have been building for almost two years and you are one of the dopest I know at your given craft. For those who may not be familiar with you and your work feel free to introduce yourself to the readers. Who are you? Where are you from? What you do?

I'm Horatio The The Best Man.  I'm a rapper, Producer and

Engineer.  I'm from Detroit Michigan and I'm from the Schoolcraft
area.

2.Now Horatio The Best Man i kinda know the meaning behind your name but explain to the readers the

significance behind your artist/producer name and how it came about?

I've always been the go to person to most of my friends and I
assume that must give them good advice. Most of my friends say I am
wise and seem older than I really am.  In the story Hamlet the main
character Hamlet had a best friend who he could talk to about
anything.  This friend's name was Horatio.  He was the best man to go
to for advice.  This is how my name came about.  I'm usually the best
man to get advice from for my friends and for music engineering if you
ever hear my music quality.

3.What us your earliest recollection of music?

 I starting in the early 90's around 1990. Thats when I started
rapping. My parent splayed a lot of records form the 70's and all of
my uncles payed instruments.  So I play a few myself and that is the
reason for my soulful sound.

4.When did you fall in love with hip hop aka your brown sugar moment?

 I fell in love with Hip Hop and finally decided to rap when I
first heard "I used to love her" by Common Sense.  ALso the E-40
"Federal" Album had a major part in it too

5.Who are some of your influences and how have they influenced your signature style and sound?

My major influences are A Tribe Called Quest, MC Eiht, Eazy- E, AZ,
Dela Soul, 2 Pac, Master P, Slum Village, and so many more

6.When did you realize that you had a gift at music?

I first realized I had a gift when me and my Cousin Ruggedsun1 AKA
Killavolt started making beats and raps together at my Uncle's studio
on our own.  We used to make beats and record songs on the equipment.
This was in the 90's when there was no Protools and PC's yet.We were
did a few tapes back then and it went forward from there.

7.When did you decide to pursue your gift of music?

Around 1991 when I started rapping.

8.When did you start producing and being an MC, not to show age but what year did you start both?

 I starting rapping around 1991 and I started producing seriously
around the year 2000.

9. Now we are both from Detroit, What is the current music scene like at this moment?

Currently the music scene is really competitive to the point where

most artist don't even listen to each other because they are too busy
trying to out do one another.  It's kind of sad compared to other
cities where everyone helps each other get on.  Here it's like we all
want the same thing but nobody wants to help one another get there.
However we all never really make it anywhere technically.

10.What is the Beat Battle scene like at the moment?, congrats on making the cut for the March Madness Beat Battle.

I love the beat battle scene the most.  For the most part its a
close nit community and everyone knows one another.  It's a positive
atmosphere but sometimes, like in every city the politics come into
play and sometimes a name is all you need to get where you want to be.
Basically you have to really fight for your respect and your name to
be worth anything in this city.

11.How Do you define your signature sound as a Producer and MC?

 I think I my sound is mostly soulful like J DIlla or Pete Rock.
Since I play a few instruments I think I have a habit of making sure
my beats are music heavy and not so Naked like the music of today.
12. I believe that the anologue approach has a better sound naturally
but I feel that if the producer or engineer knows what they are doing
the same sound quality can still be accomplished.

12.What is your stance on the analogue vs digital debate as far as equipment for music production?

No Currently I am not on a label. I was a long time ago but I feel
that it is best for me to stay independent.  Especially since I
engineer for labels and a lot of artist who are signed to labels.

14. What does your lab consists of and how has it changed since you originally started?

I used a PC, a M-Audio Interface, a Presonus Pre-Amp, Presonus
Compressor, I Akai MPD 18, A E-MU Keyboard Controller, a KRK 10 inch
sub woofer, 2 KRK Rokit 5's, Reason 8, and Protools, and a mic

15. .Do you have any jewelz that you would pass along to new artist and producers?

I would say that you should make the music that fits you and not

what fits the crowd.  Try to sound like yourself instead of everyone
else.

1.WhatUpDoe fam, we have been building for awhile now and I know that your dope beyond dope at your chosen craft but for those who may be unfamiliar with you or your work, feel free to introduce yourself? Who are you? Where are you from? What Do you do?

  

I am Kahlil or K pHetic I am from Motown. Started as a writer, singer, producer, and emcee. Now I do everything that’s involved in putting out a project  graphic design, mix and mastering, producing, web design, marketing, duplication and consulting work for artists amongst other things. I also have a clothing label I’m working with.

2. K-Phetic thats a dope name, can you explain the science behind it and how it came about?

 I was named after Lebanese poet and artist Kahlil Gibran.  One of his most popular collections of writings and drawings is called “The Prophet” which was my name initially.  Over the years I realized too many people wanted to use the name so it became Prophetic and there was the same problem.  I then realized that if I wanted to be noticed and not lumped in with the plethora of false prophets so I shortened Prophetic to phetic and placed the K in from for King …King of the prophets (K Phetic)

3.What is your earliest recollection of music?

Very very difficult to decipher as music was always around.  My mother always sang to me as a child and my dad played various instruments so I suppose it is just in me. I don’t remember a time without music. I got my first piano at like 2 or 3…

4.What is your earliest recollection of hip hop aka your brown sugar moment?

Hip hop to me was realized as a culture.  I heard the music all the time but it wasn’t called “hip hop “ per sae it was what we listened to to dance and not listen to old soul and pop our parents played day in and day out … It was young peoples music.  We would hang out in the streets with boom boxes and listen to music dance (break boy).  It was a unity thing …it was something that was ours. 

5.Who are some of your influences and how have they influenced you?

My father was a major influence as him and his homies used to get together and have Jam sessions where they would all play and sing maybe some rapping was happening but more like a reggae ish vibe.. He always had instruments around the house and he always played guitar and flute too.  They used to record to tape. He used to take me to record stores when he would go dig for old and new shit.  My mother always sang around the house.. I was always around music.

6.Not to show age but what year did you start rapping and producing?

First off I started with a Playschool turntable a boom box and a Purple Rain record…and a couple blank tapes…I ruined that record…I think I got it on my 8^th birthday…Then I started making radio shows then came pause tapes because I realized I could extend a beat doing that…. A lot of beating on desks and, beat boxing.  I was always a creator of music but I really didn’t know about how music was professionally recorded.  Didn’t touch a piece of pro equipment until 1996  in a friends dorm room he had a beat machine …it was over.. I had tapes and tapes of beat ideas I had beat boxed and I went to work. Couple days later he asked me to do a track for his group..that was my first time in the studio.

7.How do you define your signature sound?

New Motown Sound…progressive hip hop, IDK man let the people label it. I don’t think I can be boxed in.

8.How do you feel about the analogue versus digital approach to production?

Well I come from the analogue world where the sounds have body and warmth and the bass is phat.  I actually started recording when the digital world was becoming relevant so I got the best of both worlds. Computer audio is often flat and lifeless but with a knowledge of frequency and sound you can add that back in the mix in most cases… I have a lot of issues with software. It made everyone a music artist.. When you had to buy $1000 pieces of hardware the whole music game was a lot more serious… now anyone can pirate software with no skills and produce sound.  I still use a mesh of both to me it’s the only way to go.

9.How do you feel about the ongoing ghostwriting debate going on in hip hop right now?

I couldnt care less..Sike …. I don’t care for un authentic artists… Some people are creators and some are orators.  Its always been that way especially in R&B..  I prefer truth in my music though, authenticity, real feeling, emotion. Im not opposed to writing or ghost producing for people though…. Shit even Sugar Hill had ghost writers…. Show me the money$$$

10.What is the local music scene like where you are from?

Bursting with talent everywhere you look. There is a street element and a “backpack” element here and the two never come together and constantly call the other side lame or unskilled. There are certain shows where you know you not going to hear boom bap hip hop and certain shows where you know you won’t hear trap or 808 heavy tracks.  Overall Detroit is its own worst enemy. If your wack you won’t make it!  You just take up space.

11.Does the local scene affect how and what you create?

I know this sounds nuts but not really.  Aside from doing something with a local artist my creation is a lot more personal than that. 

12.What is your creative proccess as a MC and Producer?

I come up with a song concept and a vocal melody, maybe I think of an old riff or record or even instrument I would like to use. Figure how I want a melody or sample to play (in my head). First for me is always a basic boom bap drum track…usually while I’m creating a track vocals start to appear and I might stop and write the song then finish the beat…. A lot of times I record the song before the beat is done or even after I lay the initial drum track and then build the beat around the vocals. I make a lot of original music.

As far as an emcee I have lots of concepts and song ideas in my head and when I audition beats those beats pull out those ideas and that’s how I choose tracks that I buy from people. For me it’s like its meant to fit together…Producers send me nice tracks all the time that I can’t fuck with because they just don’t touch me. Nowadays I usually write per song …Don’t just have mad notebooks of songs like I used to. I just memorize detailed song concepts and a couple bars and we rolling.

13.What does your lab set up consists of and how has it changed over the years?

Well my initial lab was all hardware Mpc2000, Ensoniq boards, Yamaha DAW, dr5 drum machine, statocaster guitar, dj mixer and technic turntable. I still have most of that and incorporated digital technology for production and several mic pres and outboard compressors for warmth and what to me is an overall better sound then going str8 into the computer with voice or instruments.  Also added a bass guitar mpc studio midi keys, shakers, flutes, variety off off brand ethnic instruments.   I also use software for production and my go to is Reason for that ….been using Reason since my first computer rig it’s the closest to hardware visually and work flow wise… You didn’t think I was gonna give it all away did you….lol

14. Which do you prefer being a producer or MC?

I cant choose …I will probably stop rappin before I stop producing…if that makes sense.. A producer produces records not just beats and that’s what I do. Build sound back vocals and build records….Overall I enjoy engineering and the manipulation of recorded sound  more so than both of them… 

15.What sets your music and brand apart from everyone else?

Live playing and instrumentation I use a lot of actual instrument sound samples instead of synthesized versions. Or sample my own. I have folders and folders ..gigs and gigs of developed and sampled sounds. A lot of people dig records for melodys or drums or lengthy samples. I dig sometimes just to get certain horn sound, that certain snare, or bell, or whistle, it could be anything. I will snatch a note and then begin to build off that weather designing a new sound comparable to it or eq ing some of the dirt out or wutever.. Overall im a sound quality fiend and spend a lot of time in sound design and mixing and mastering

16.What are some of your current projects and where can we find them?

I have two previously released albums that are both available for free “K pHetic Presents” and “ The Interim Project” both are available via my bandcamp website. Currently I a have 3 singles out “That Loud” which is produced by Rockwilder, “#WUTCHYUWUSTHNKN” produced by Pete Rock and “Hotel” produced by Cipher 7000 the singles are available via iTunes and the Parkside Media Group soundcloud

17.What are some of your future projects and which ones are you looking forward to most?

I have 3 solo projects on the way 2 are in mix master phase.  Waiting on a few engineers that I would like to have the chance to work with on it.  Im excited about the 2016s project that should have been out but as I stated cant let it come out until its my ears say so and it has not been time. It’s a dope project I got production from Detroit KillaB, Konphlict, Rockwilder and of course myself.

20.When did you realize you had a talent in music and when did you decide to pursue it as a possible career?

When I was  a kid I knew I was good a emceeing and writing in general.  When I started hearing other people who rapped or were rappers even ones on radio or tape..and I though that I was better than that and maybe I could really do this but I never took it seriously till after that first session. We used to go everywhere battling “rappers” 7 mile to belle isle everywhere we went we rapped..in 99 I booked a session with a friend of a good friend @ the disc (Magnetic) .. Everyone who heard that tape wanted to work…it was scary and amazing. Also got the opportunity to work on JDillas mpc and at that point he was IT for me on production so to me I was inline with the universe and where I was supposed to be.

What's good brother...my name is DoomDaWiz, I'm from Springfield, Massachusetts..and I'm a Boom Bap Producer 

2.Now Doom Da Wiz, thats a dope beyond dope production name, 
Whats the science behind it and how did the name come about?

Well I'm a jack of all trades,I can draw, i DJ , and I also have a degree in Film, Audio Engineering and multi media ... and I make beats...so when I mesh those all together people say I craft it together like a wizard...my brother HighLifeHalf said DoomDaWiz and it stuck.

3.What is your earliest recollection of music in general?

Probably like everyone else...growing up listening to ur moms play her records... my moms was versatile with her music...so I got a variety of different music... 

4. When Did you fall in love with hip hop aka your brown sugar moment?

now my Aunt she had the soul record collection and she played the first rap record I ever heard Christmas Rap by Kurtis Blow. After that I was Hop Hop all the way!

5.Who are some of your influences and how have they influenced you?

Too many but I would say, 

Strong Hold Posse, Preemo, Pete Rock, Dilla, Large Pro, Kenny Parker, Grand Daddy I.U....and the Beatminerz there music touched my soul. But I.U. Gave me some advice on my beats and that changed how I made beats forever.

6.Not to show age but what year did you start producing?

To be honest I always messed around with it.. but I didn't really start taking it seriously till 2001

7.When did you realize your talent in music and choose to pursue your talent?

I didn't really Pursue it ...I made a beat for Mikey D ...I sent him a message on FB ..and said yo I got this beat I made just for u...I sent it to him 2 weeks later he sent me back a song ...after that I shot his video for his first single "All Alone" ...and when we wrapped that ...I wanted to shoot a video for the song he did for me but our schedules were off. So I decided to do something different I edited a old Fat Albert cartoon to the lyrics put it out and people love it...started to ask who produced the track and since then things took off for me

8.How do you feel about the e-digging vs Vinyl digging debate?

I don't care where u find ur sounds if u make something dope then it's dope!

9.What is your stance on the digital vs analog debate on production equipment?

I don't care what u make ur music with if it's dope it's dope!

10. What is the local music scene like where you live?

I really don't know ...I only mess with select local artists... and they do shows all over. So there not really local.

11. Does the local music scene affect how and what you create?

No not at all..I make music for me first.. music is my medication 

12.Im a producer as well, but what does your creative process consist of?

A big bag of bud. 

13.What does your lab set up consists of and how has it changed since you started?

I have a Korg Triton LE, MPD32, and a MPK61...it hasn't changed love my shit!! 

14. Now you just dropped The shogun beat tape which was a dope beyond dope beat tape. What was the concept behind it, how has it been received by fans and where can people find it?

I made that in one day...and dropped it the next...I didn't want it to be just a thing of beats I wanted to add that Hip Hop feel... I named it the shogun because I just happened to be watching the Last Dragon earlier that day lol. Smoke a L then went to work in it. The public lived it well I gave it away for free and moved units ..I should of charged lol

15.What are some of your current projects and where can we find them to show support?

Well I just finished up My producer team the Audio Skulls Hateful8 beat tape that's out right now. 8 different producers from across the US!! 8 different styles. I'll provide the links 

I'm currently working on a few things first my album The Ugly Truth... with features by: Mikey D, Grand Daddy I.U., Krumbsnatcha, AG Da Coroner, HighLifeHalf, and more due out in January.

I'm also working on HighLifeHalf album that will be out later this year 

16. What are some of your future projects and which ones are you looking forward to most?

Secrets all Secrets just expect a lot from DoomDawiz in 2017

I own my own Production Company called BCM Studios..Which consists of Film, & Music
